If I return from this silent retreat:
I want to hear my voice of wonder,
of childhood,
unfettered hope,
shy curiosity,
and thoughtful ignorance.
If I Return from this Silent Retreat
Bob Komives
accusing,
impatient with their selfishness,
impatient for my own,
fatigued from trying.
I want to hear my ideas,
free of clamor and compromise,
pure and simple,
(Though I doubt I can ever make them simple.)
floated on a breeze in transparent pods,
ready to burst out loudly
when the weather is right.
If I return from this silent retreat
I know I shall hear disagreement
among these new voices,
but, unlike before the silence,
I shall hear my voices agree with me.
