It led to this street,
but not to this light where we
play upon,
cry upon,
are cried upon,
shouted on,
and celebrate tonight.

We do not know how it feels
to give birth to an era,
but we feel tonight's joy is birth's labor.
If we do not give birth to an era,
we have this great hope in a movement.
If we do not give birth to a movement,
we have this great pleasure in trying.

..........--though not forever.
..........Older tomorrow
..........--though not forever.
..........We see a new course
..........--though not for mapping.
..........Rhythmic together
..........--though not for marching.
We stand in group
--though not formation.
Perhaps, here comes a new era
--at least, more music and verse.
Perhaps, here comes a new movement
-at least, a firmer embrace.
Perhaps, here comes a new handbook
--at least, a better next draft.
Perhaps, here comes our fulfillment
--at least, a fuller tonight.

but not of this way where we
