Born so gifted but ill-fated
into tropic heat,
best genetic skater
ever born for ice,
he went buried in Honduras
into tropic earth,
humbled by the ice sheet
he had never touched.

Born so gifted and well-fated
onto dry-grass plain,
there in restless wonder,
always almost home,
we went southward from north winter
into tropic damp,
leaving and befriending
those that never meet.
