Aspen

 A lazy day,

in a lazy and lonely way,

went out, came in to play

[in an odd kind of way]

with an aspen.

Collaboration with Art-full Friends

Let us imagine art-full bookmark
to send and ascend
from art-full friend to friend.

Let it deepen our depths
as we
converse
convert
converge
then pause together
at art-full end
to emerge
each alone
more art-full friend.

Simple Commission

Para el retrato de mi amor-y-deseos, puedes empezarlo con tonos exigentes, si lo acabas con colores profundos y permanentes ... Kőmíves

Critics may someday see
      hint of a renaissance,
      of the exigent,
      splendor, profound and permanent,

but, (for this portrait of love reborn)
my commission is more simple:

Begin
with palette of tones demanding.
Then finish
with colors both deep and lasting.

Object in Love Coherent

Perhaps you too have noticed:

How
mundane sight becomes inspired image
and speaks to a moment or a forever.

"Object in Love Coherent"
Bob Komives
How (in this rather ordinary example) a wedge (struck by my earnest-but-ignorant hammer) sits partway driven into heart of elm and there reveals strong-but-elegant fiber, (bonds long hidden) that strive to cohere entire wood. How a confounded-but-sensitive eye can see in this revelation beauty-- beauty enough to switch violence to reverence (cause a pause) (a setting aside) a putting on display of "Object in Love Coherent". How (once noticed) such curious work of mind (and art) can warm us longer than ever could mere firewood.

A Szintézis Tehetségéröl

Óriási mezőn, ahol zseni, bolond, kuruzsló jár,
én egy halvány útat talalok.
Bármilyen nehéz azt az útat követni,
még nehezebb tudni ki vagyok.

OnThe Art of Synthesis

I found a faint road through a vast field

where genius, fool, and charlatan must ply.

As hard as the road is to follow,

harder still is to know who am I.

For The Creative Day

featured in the book Good Day with the art of Gale Whitman

Yes,
we are passionate about our project.
We are passionate not because we presume
that we,
finally,
are the ones to save our imperfect species

     and threatened planet,
but because it is our turn.
It is our turn
to save,
beautify,
improve,
and enjoy
our brief time and changing world.

For The Creative Day
Bob Komives

Every generation,
each century,
each millennium
challenges our species and our planet,
because our species and planet challenge each other.
Our 21st Century is at once both unique
     and no different.

Abundance,
we have stolen it, produced it, consumed it, wasted it,
leaving residue of pleasure and guilt.

Nature,
the living world of which we are but a small part,
we threaten with crassness and calories.

Technology,
we embrace, but seldom understand it;
we connect through it while feeling more disconnected;
we demand that it move us faster
     while we dream of  slowing down;
and  for every fear it erases we discover new anxiety.

Mortality,
we know more about it than our ancestors
but seem to find it harder to accept.

Yet,
every depressing hour calls out for the creative day
     that we insist on having.
Seasoned
we are by trials.
Inspired
we are by beauty,
     generosity,
     sensitivity,
     resilience,
     the creative optimism of others
that we find humbly reflected in ourselves.
In well-seasoned optimism
we acknowledge struggles,
share joys,
encourage each other--

     among others.
As we marvel at how much we have in common
we celebrate our differing skills.
In fond, artistic union
we celebrate
what we make audible of  what one sees,
and what we make visible of what one hears.

As Artist Notes Another Artist Pass By

As artist notes another artist pass by
in glow of jazz stage light,
silence whispers the message,
noted,
nodded,
understood:
     "Collaborate again?

               Some day--perhaps--we should."

Back to jazz.
A sketch to sketch
and words to write:
     "Apart, depart the night."
     "Apart, depart for good."

Beauty's Laws

Beauty's laws we partially know
by their refusal to obey our own
unwilling to be always sensible
nor nonsensical
humble
nor august
Each is silent, yet articulate
simultaneous, but free of babble
timeless and immediate

Loud Cloud

Loud Cloud

Bob Komives
::

Awaken!
Hear the Sound!
Look to the stage!
Are they the act or interlude?

Loud cloud over talent and beauty,
noise over music,
vibration over feeling,
as if
the talent and the beauty feel less than they are,
as if
we neither hear nor see what they are,
as if
we could not notice,
as if
they could not care.

We failed to hear their whisper.
Is that why they shout?
Is that what this cloud is about?
Did we miss the mist of genius,
as ours was missed,
as ours was mistaken
by a generation that knew too much?

We knew better then.
Do we know too much now?
Are we what this cloud is about?
     Awake for our act.
     Asleep for the interlude.
